John Martyn – The Electric John Martyn
Curious compilation that seems to have set out with the intention of lashing together a number of John Martyn’s more FX-laden excursions and then got cold feet along the way.
Consequently what you get lacks the restless extravagance of his experimental work as well as the ravishing prettiness of tracks like May You Never, Glistening Glyndebourne or Spencer The Rover. Put together in 1982 to mark his departure from Island, it’s since been rendered even more obsolete by his recent return. Apart from that it’s fine.
