WHILE HE may never recapture the genius of such albums as Solid Air, there is little doubt that John Martyn’s career is enjoying a renaissance. Blurring the lines between folk, jazz, rock and blues, his voice remains as expressive as ever. His live performances used to be hit- and-miss affairs (he has fallen off the stage drunk before), but these days he is more together. And, though he still plays all the old songs, the quiet strength of his newer material means that his concerts are never simply exercises in nostalgia.
