It is with profund sadness, that we announce that Beverley passed away peacefully at home on 27 April 2026.
Beverley was a remarkable woman of great inner strength. She was beautiful, intelligent, warm and kind.
An incredibly talented singer and songwriter Beverley recorded her first single Babe I’m leaving You with The Levee Breakers in 1965. In 1966 she was chosen to launch the new Deram Records label and recorded her first solo single, Happy New Year. A second single, Museum, followed in 1967.
Beverley met and married John Martyn in 1969, recording two albums together, Stormbringer! and The Road To Ruin. She continued to contribute to John’s solo albums whilst spending more time with their children and focussing on family life. Over a long career Beverley worked with Levon Helm, Jimmy Page, Dave Pegg, Richard Thompson, John Renbourn, Ralph McTell, Davy Graham and Sandy Denny. She toured the USA with Simon and Garfunkel, and appeared in the photograph on the sleeve of Bert Jansch’s 1965 album It Don’t Bother Me.
Beverley released two solo albums, No Frills in 1998 and The Phoenix And The Turtle in 2014.
We send our very best wishes and heartfelt condolences to Beverley’s family and, in particular, to Wesley and Mhairi.
