I was listening to the CD [Bless The Weather] and reading your comprehensive notes on this album, and felt I should drop you a line to congratulate you very sincerely on the work you do to tend John’s legacy. I especially love the way your notes are friendly and informative without being ingratiating or opinionated – something particularly rare and refreshing these days!
I remember those days around “Bless The Weather”, and the album triggers details: I walked into the control room of Sound Techniques just as John was recording the vocal for “JustNow”, and he hit the line “a better friend now than I’ve ever known” just as he caught my eye – he smiled and winked at me and continued singing.
John asked me to write the sleevenotes, and after long consideration, I said that the only words I wanted to write were “So nice to see our John again” because that was The Truth. John said that would do fine. I just assumed that Island would reject such a, um, brief account….but they didn’t, bless them!
