JOHN MARTYN
SINCE emerging from the Scottish folk scene more than 30 years ago, John Martyn has broken more barriers than almost any other artist. He was the first white signing to Chris Blackwell’s Island label, he was one of the first to fleck his folk with blues and jazz, he developed his own distinctive guitar style and went on to collaborate with everyone from Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry to Phil Collins. However, Martyn’s latest album, Glasgow Walker, his first new set of songs for four years, sees him return to the heartfelt folk and romantic lyrics which have always been at the core of his best work.
